Calls, WhatsApp pings, surprise visits, fire after fire. By 7 pm they are exhausted, yet the one thing that would have actually moved their career or their business forward is still untouched. I have stood in front of thousands of professionals, and this is the most common pain I meet. In my book The Winning Edge, The Champion Mindset , I devote a full chapter to time, because time is the only resource you can never get back. It is the scarcest, most perishable, inelastic and non-substitutable resource you own. You cannot store it, borrow it, or buy more of it. The champions I study do not have more hours than you. They simply spend those hours differently. The tool I keep coming back to, in my workshops and in my own week, is the Eisenhower Matrix, the simple four-box discipline of separating the urgent from the important. Let me walk you through how I teach it to busy Indian managers. Why Indian managers are drowning in urgency Here is the trap. Urgent things shout. Important things whisper. The phone call demanding a reply right now feels more pressing than the strategy you should be building, even though the strategy is what your future depends on. So we spend our day answering the loudest voice in the room and call it work. I often quote Zig Ziglar to my audiences: the problem is rarely a lack of time, it is a lack of direction. We all get the same twenty-four hours. The manager who finishes the year having built something has not found extra hours, they have refused to let urgency hijack their importance. It is not a lack of time we suffer from. It is a lack of direction. We all have time enough, if we will but use it aright. The way you spend your hours is the way you spend your life.
