The idea comes from the behaviour coach Marshall Goldsmith, and once I started living it, my own progress as a speaker, a leader and a father changed measurably. This is not theory. Why Goals Fail And Feedback Wins We are excellent at deciding and terrible at sustaining. The reason is simple. The moment of decision feels like progress, so the brain rewards us before we have done anything. Then life gets loud, the new habit gets quiet, and within weeks the goal is a memory. What changes the equation is a daily feedback loop. When you are forced to score yourself every single day on whether you tried, the gap between intention and action becomes impossible to ignore. The scorecard does not let you lie to yourself. The only questions that really matter are the ones you ask yourself. The shift from passive to active Goldsmith's key insight is the difference between passive and active questions. A passive question asks, "Do I have clear goals?" That invites you to blame your manager, your company, your circumstances. An active question asks, "Did I do my best to set clear goals today?" Now the responsibility is entirely yours.
