The Story of Amol: When Silence Became the Medicine Amol was a patient at a de-addiction rehabilitation centre in Pune. When a counsellor first came to meet him, her task was straightforward: fill in a 25-question intake form. Standard procedure. She sat down, introduced herself, and began asking the first question. Amol started answering. And then he kept talking. The counsellor did something that most of us would struggle to do. She barely looked up. She listened and wrote. She did not interrupt. She did not redirect him to the next question. She did not offer sympathy or advice or a reframe. She simply received what Amol was giving her — his words, his silences, his story.
