In my book The Winning Edge, The Champion Mindset , I call the answer the Master System, the underlying mechanism of human behaviour that I learned to study deeply through the work of Tony Robbins in Awaken the Giant Within . Once you can see this system running inside yourself and inside your team, you stop managing symptoms and start working the real controls. In my workshops with leaders and coaches across Maharashtra, I teach this as five levers, state, questions, values, beliefs and references. Pull the right lever and behaviour changes. Pull the wrong one, or none at all, and you keep getting the same results while wondering why. Let me walk you through all five. Lever One: State, the mood you operate from Everything starts with your state, your mood in any given moment. A state is either resourceful, where you feel confident, focused and capable, or unresourceful, where you feel anxious, defeated or angry. The same person in two different states behaves like two different people. The leader who snaps at the team at 7 pm is often the same one who was warm and patient at 10 am. Nothing changed about their character. Their state changed. The three ways you can shift a state The good news is that state is not something that happens to you, it is something you can change on purpose through three doors. Physiology. How you use your body, your posture, breathing, the way you move and where you put tension. Stand tall, breathe deep, move with energy, and your state shifts before you have said a single word to yourself. Focus. Whatever you focus on, you feel.
