A small district that farms like a big one

Harda is one of Madhya Pradesh's smallest districts and one of its most intensively farmed. Canal water from the Tawa command turned this stretch of the Narmada valley into serious wheat-and-soybean country. Double-cropped, mechanised by district standards, and productive enough that Harda's mandi throughput embarrasses districts twice its size. Cooperative societies and bank branches whose service behaviour decides their standing in a community where everyone knows everyone.
