Between the Son and the coal belt

Sidhi lies along the Son, whose valley gives the district its fertile strip and its settlements. Forest rises behind that strip towards Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve, a large and quiet reserve that shares the Sanjay landscape with Chhattisgarh and carries Sidhi's share of the tiger map. The economy is agriculture first and forest produce second. Increasingly it is a corridor function third. That corridor position shows in households. Sidhi supplies workers, drivers, contractors and clerks to the energy belt, while its own towns run the mandis, banks, schools and offices of a large district. Sidhi town does that work. So do Churhat and the tehsil centres.

Training for a corridor district

The realistic briefs here are institutional and contractor-side. Bank and cooperative branches want counter service and field-recovery confidence. Schools and colleges want student direction and staff-development days. The district's contractors and transport operators serving Singrauli-side projects want supervisors who can manage crews, paperwork and safety talk properly. And government-adjacent programmes periodically need a serious motivational anchor for youth events.

It is the interview, the first week, and the inability to put a question to a supervisor without either mumbling or arguing. A full day of practice on exactly that, in Hindi, in a hall of final-year students, shifts more than a semester of advice.
