Bharat Gite of Taural India: How Political Savvy Took an Engineer from Pune to a Global Aluminum Castings Company

My friend Bharat Gite went from a metallurgical engineering student in Pune to the Founder & CEO of Taural India, a global aluminum castings company. His story is a masterclass in political awareness — the EQ trait that turns technical brilliance into lasting influence.

Bharat Gite of Taural India: How Political Savvy Took an Engineer from Pune to a Global Aluminum Castings Company

My friend Bharat Gite did not start with connections, capital, or a ready-made market. He started with a metallurgical engineering degree, a vision to bring German precision-casting technology to India, and the political awareness to know that technical brilliance alone never builds a global company — relationships and timing do.

    In short

Where this sits on your Winning Kite

Political Awareness, Savvy, and Intelligence is Trait #17 in Stars at India Inc., sitting on the EQ — the left side — of your Winning Kite (KITE Leadership Framework). It is the ability to read power, relationships, and the unwritten rules of an organization or industry, and to act on that understanding with integrity. On its own, EQ does not build a global manufacturing company. But without it, even the best engineering vision in the world stays stuck in a small workshop. Bharat's story shows what happens when technical mastery is matched with this kind of situational intelligence.

From a Metallurgy Classroom in Pune to a Factory Floor in Germany

I have had the privilege of knowing Bharat Gite closely, and his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a leader in the demanding field of aluminum castings is genuinely inspiring. Despite facing early hardships, his passion for metallurgical engineering never wavered. He completed his education at the prestigious College of Engineering Pune (COEP) — one of India's oldest and most respected engineering institutions.

But Bharat did not stop at a domestic degree. He had a specific, ambitious vision: to bring German precision-engineering technology into Indian manufacturing. To make that real, he pursued a master's program at the Technical University of Aachen in Germany, one of the world's leading centres for mechanical and materials engineering. While there, he did not just study theory — he worked for companies like BMW AG and Mahle GmbH, two names that sit at the very top of global automotive engineering and precision components.

This is where the first seed of political awareness shows up in Bharat's story, even before he built a company. He understood that credibility in a specialised, capital-intensive industry like aluminum castings is not built by claiming expertise — it is built by being present inside the rooms where that expertise is practiced at the highest level. Working inside BMW AG and Mahle GmbH gave him more than technical skill. It gave him standing: a story he could tell any future client, partner, or investor that no amount of self-promotion could replicate.

Founding G&B Metal Casting — and the Leap to Taural India

Upon returning to India, Bharat founded G&B Metal Casting in 2014. This was the entrepreneurial leap — leaving behind the comfort of working inside established European giants to build something of his own, in a country where the aluminum castings ecosystem was nowhere near as mature as Germany's.

Here is where political savvy became decisive rather than just useful. G&B Metal Casting eventually evolved into Taural India, formed as a joint venture with Thoni Alutec of Poland — one of the world's leading companies in aluminum castings. Think about what that joint venture represents. Bharat did not simply try to out-compete established global players with a fledgling Indian company. He identified the right strategic partner, built the relationship, and structured an alliance that combined Thoni Alutec's global stature with his own technical grounding and understanding of the Indian market.

This is political awareness in its purest form: understanding that in a complex, capital-heavy industry, the fastest and most sustainable way to global scale is not always to fight alone — it is to correctly read who holds credibility, technology, and market access, and to build a relationship that lets both sides win.

Winning Defense, Aerospace, and EV Clients

His commitment to customer satisfaction and innovative engineering propelled Taural India to genuinely global heights, with clients spanning industries as demanding and trust-sensitive as Defense, Aerospace, and Electric Vehicles (EV). These are not sectors where a vendor gets a contract on price alone. Defense and aerospace procurement, in particular, run on relationships, credibility, compliance history, and deep institutional trust built over years — exactly the terrain where political awareness matters most.

To win and retain clients in these sectors, Bharat had to understand who the real decision-makers were, what unwritten expectations existed around quality and reliability, and how to position Taural India as a dependable, technically serious partner rather than just another vendor bidding on price. This mirrors a caution Avinash gives elsewhere in this chapter: in any organization, the real decision-maker is often not the person you first meet across the table. In Bharat's world, this meant understanding that winning a Defense or Aerospace contract required navigating layers of technical evaluation, compliance certification, and relationship-building with procurement and engineering leadership — not just submitting the lowest quote.

Recognition: Pride of Maharashtra and the SIDM Special Jury Award

Bharat's political acumen and strategic decision-making have been critical to his success, and it hasn't gone unnoticed. He has been recognised for his contributions to India's economic development with the "Pride of Maharashtra" award, and a "Special Jury Award — Import Substitution" at the Society of Indian Defense Manufacturers (SIDM) 2022 event. Import substitution is a particularly meaningful category here — it recognises companies that reduce India's dependence on imported components by building world-class manufacturing capability at home. That Taural India won this award tells you exactly what Bharat set out to do when he left Germany: bring that precision-engineering capability back to India, not just import it.

Giving Back: COEP Alumni Association and the Bhau Institute

What sets Bharat apart from a purely technical or purely commercial success story is his genuine commitment to fostering a growth mindset in India's youth — an idea that echoes what psychologist Carol Dweck describes as a "growth mindset," the belief that ability can be developed through effort and mentorship rather than treated as fixed. As the President of the COEP Alumni Association and a member of the Bhau Institute of Entrepreneurship & Leadership Board of Directors, Bharat invests time and credibility into institutions that shape the next generation of Indian engineers and entrepreneurs.

This, too, is political awareness at work — not the transactional kind, but the long-term kind. Being visible and active in institutions like COEP's alumni network and a leadership board keeps Bharat connected to India's engineering and entrepreneurship ecosystem, builds goodwill, and positions him as a serious, respected figure well beyond the walls of Taural India. As his friend, I am honoured to know Bharat not just for his impressive achievements, but for this genuine commitment to his community.

What Bharat's Story Teaches Working Professionals

You do not need to found a global manufacturing company to apply what Bharat's journey teaches. Political awareness shows up in ordinary workplace situations too. Elsewhere in this chapter, I describe Ankit, who built a great relationship with his direct manager Priyanka but never invested in building visibility with Brijesh — Priyanka's boss and the actual decision-maker for salary hikes across the corporate office. Ankit's career growth stalled not because he lacked skill, but because he lacked political awareness of where real decision-making power sat.

Bharat never made that mistake. At every stage — choosing to work at BMW AG and Mahle GmbH before starting his own venture, choosing Thoni Alutec as a joint-venture partner instead of going it alone, choosing to compete in Defense and Aerospace instead of only easier commercial markets, and choosing to stay active in COEP and Bhau Institute — he consistently identified where real power, credibility, and long-term value lived, and he built toward it deliberately.

This is the essence of political awareness and savvy as a workplace competency, echoing what Daniel Goleman calls "organizational awareness" within emotional intelligence: the ability to read the currents of power, alliance and culture that formal org charts never fully capture. Bharat's story from a farming-adjacent, humble beginning to Founder & CEO of a globally-recognised aluminum castings company is proof that this trait, paired with technical excellence, can carry you from a classroom in Pune to boardrooms across Europe, Defense procurement offices in India, and everywhere in between.

Overall, Bharat's journey is a true example of the importance of political awareness and savvy in achieving success in the complex Indian business landscape. And as his friend, I couldn't be more proud to share his story with the world.
