AI for HR works best on drafting, summarising and sorting. Here are 10 tasks your HR team can hand to AI this month, and the points where a person must sign off.

AI for HR means letting AI draft, summarise and sort while your people decide. Your team can hand over ten routine tasks this month, from job descriptions to survey summaries, and keep every decision about people with a person. NASSCOM-Deloitte says India needs 1.25 million AI professionals by 2027.
TL;DRIt means AI does the first draft and the sorting, and your HR person does the thinking. Think of it as a very fast junior who never gets tired but also never knows your company. It can write a job description in a minute, but it does not know your pay bands or your culture. I run my own businesses with more than a dozen AI agents and a supervising agent, and one rule holds everywhere: a person approves anything that matters. HR is no different. The gain is time, not judgement.
Start with these ten: job descriptions, interview question banks, resume summaries for the recruiter to read, interview scheduling emails, first drafts of offer letters, answers to common policy questions, onboarding checklists, employee survey comment summaries, themes from exit interviews, and monthly HR reports. Each one is repetitive, text-heavy and easy to check. The table below shows what AI does in each and who signs off. Pick two this month, not all ten, and measure the hours your team gets back before adding more.
| HR task | What AI does | Who approves |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Job descriptions | Drafts role, duties, skills | Hiring manager |
| 2. Interview questions | Builds a role-based question bank | Recruiter |
| 3. Resume summaries | Summarises each CV in five lines | Recruiter (shortlists) |
| 4. Scheduling emails | Writes invites and reminders | HR executive |
| 5. Offer letter drafts | Fills your approved template | HR head |
| 6. Policy answers | Drafts replies from your policy file | HR business partner |
| 7. Onboarding checklists | Builds role-wise 30-day plans | HR and manager |
| 8. Survey comments | Groups comments into themes | HR lead |
| 9. Exit interview themes | Finds repeated reasons | HR head |
| 10. HR reports | Turns your data into a summary | HR head |
Keep AI away from final hiring decisions, salary calls, performance ratings, disciplinary letters and anything about termination. It can prepare notes for these, but a named person decides and owns the record. AI also makes confident mistakes, so a wrong leave rule or notice period in a policy answer can travel fast. Rule of thumb: if a mistake could cost someone a job, money or trust, a human reads every word before it leaves HR. That single rule keeps most of the risk out of the room.
Begin with what your company already pays for. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are good for drafting and summarising. Microsoft Copilot fits well if your team lives in Outlook, Word and Excel. A Notion knowledge base can hold your approved policies so answers come from your documents, not from guesses. Later, connectors and small AI agents can handle scheduling and reports, with a person approving the output. Our AI training for HR professionals covers these tools with your own HR tasks.
Set three rules before anyone types a prompt. First, no salary sheets, ID numbers or medical details in free public tools. Second, remove names where a task does not need them. Third, use the business or enterprise version of the tool, where the vendor states it does not train on your data, and read those terms yourself. Write the rules on one page and share it with the whole team. Most data problems come from a rushed person and a missing rule, not from the tool.
Most HR teams can run their first task within a week. The slow part is not the tool, it is agreeing on what is allowed and who reviews. A realistic path: week one, pick two tasks and write the rules; weeks two and three, run them with a reviewer; week four, count hours saved and decide what to add. I follow live sessions on the newest AI tools myself, because the tools change every few weeks, and your team needs a habit of trying and checking, not a one-time lecture.
Train them together, on their own work, with your own documents. A generic AI talk leaves people with ideas and no change on Monday. A better session takes real tasks from your HR desk, builds prompts live, shows where the output goes wrong, and ends with a one-page rulebook. AI can draft job descriptions, interview questions, offer letter first drafts and policy answers, summarise resumes and survey comments, and prepare HR reports. It saves time on repetitive writing and sorting. People still make the decisions on hiring, pay, discipline and exits.
No. AI takes over repetitive drafting and sorting, but HR work rests on trust, judgement and difficult conversations. HR professionals who learn to use AI well will finish routine work faster and spend more time on people, which is where the value is.
It is safe when you follow clear rules: no salary sheets or personal records in free public tools, use the business version of the tool, remove names where possible, and have a person review every output before it goes out.
You can request an AI training proposal for your HR team through connect@avinashchate.com, 8793630001, or the enquiry form on the HR training page. The session is built on your own HR tasks and delivered in English, Hindi or Marathi.
